Michael S. Barranco graduated cum laude from Duke University in 1982. He then enrolled at the University of Maryland School of Law where he received his J.D. with honors in 1985. As a law student, he was the recipient of the John S. Strahorn, Jr. Memorial Prize and American Jurisprudence awards for the best work in evidence.
Mr. Barranco is peer review rated “AV”® by Martindale-Hubbell. He was admitted to the bar of Maryland in December of 1985 and is also admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Prior to joining Treanor Pope & Hughes in July of 1998, Mr. Barranco was associated with the Baltimore firm of Piper & Marbury (now known as DLA Piper), where he practiced in the areas of product liability, business and commercial litigation and counseling manufacturers, distributors, retailers and service providers with respect to loss prevention, safety, risk assessment, product recalls, Year 2000 compliance and regulatory compliance issues.
At Treanor Pope & Hughes Mr. Barranco has enjoyed a broad based litigation practice which includes the continued representation of manufacturers and distributors in defense of products liability and consumer protection cases. In addition, Mr. Barranco has represented several banking clients and other financial institutions in litigation, including acting as lead defense counsel in national class action lawsuits involving consumer finance and leasing issues. Mr. Barranco has represented community and regional banks, as well as large national banks and financial institutions.
In addition, Mr. Barranco has counseled and represented clients on issues involving telecommunications and utility law, employment law, and zoning and land use law. Mr. Barranco has more than 23 years of litigation and trial experience in both the state and federal courts, as well as before arbitration panels, on a local and national level.
Mr. Barranco has been a faculty member annually for several years at the Deposition Practice & Procedure course provided by the Maryland Institute of Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers (MICPEL), and has taught paralegal studies at the Harford County Community College. |
